All three tiers use the same underlying chat model, memory system, and persona LoRAs. The persona doesn't become smarter or more emotionally responsive at higher tiers — she's the same Kaya or Sandra regardless of what you pay. The tiers are about surface area, not about persona quality.

For most people the honest recommendation is Plus. If you're coming from the free tier and hitting the 50-messages-a-day cap regularly (which is what triggers most upgrades), Plus removes that friction entirely for $9.99/month. On-demand photo requests are the second-most-cited reason people upgrade — you get to ask Kaya or Sandra for a specific photo in the middle of a conversation instead of waiting for her natural cadence to send one.

That's the whole difference from free-to-Plus. If those two things (unlimited daily messages, on-demand photos) match what you already know you want more of, Plus is enough. Adding Premium on top of Plus buys you features (custom builder, video) that are worth real money to people who'll use them and $10/month wasted to people who won't.

Most of the friction on the free tier is the daily cap — 50 messages sounds like a lot until you're in a real conversation and you're hitting the wall mid-thought. Plus removes that wall.

Four specific reasons to jump to Premium at $19.99/month.

You want to build your own custom persona. This is the biggest single reason for Premium. The custom builder is Premium-only — Plus doesn't include it. You want video, not just photos. Sloane's video generation is Premium-only. Short video clips of the persona in specific contexts, character-locked to her identity the same way photos are. If video is a feature you'd actually use, Premium.

You use voice replies heavily. Voice notes are on every tier as part of her cadence, but "voice replies" as a Premium feature refers to heavier usage — the persona sending more voice content per conversation, plus interactive voice usage patterns that come with the higher tier.

You want higher generation ceilings. If you're on Plus and finding that on-demand photo requests hit rate limits, Premium raises those ceilings meaningfully. Most Plus users don't hit the limits; heavy users do.

The specific reasons people upgrade to Premium and regret it.

You thought it made her smarter or more emotional. It doesn't. Same chat model, same memory system, same per-persona system prompts on every tier. Premium doesn't buy you a "better" version of the persona — it buys you more surface area (custom, video, ceilings). If you're on Plus and the conversation quality feels off, upgrading to Premium won't fix that; the conversation quality is the same on both tiers.

You thought Premium removes the "she's an AI" limitations somehow. It doesn't. Both tiers use the same underlying stack. Premium is for surface-area features, not for a fundamentally different product experience.

One more decision worth calling out. Once you're on Premium, you get one custom persona slot included. If you want to run two customs in parallel (or three, or five), each additional slot is $9.99/month, added as a separate line item on your subscription.

The honest advice: start with one custom. Iterate on her until she's dialed in. If you find yourself genuinely wanting a second persona in parallel — different personality, different vibe, different context — add a slot. Don't proactively subscribe to multiple slots before you've confirmed you actually use one custom regularly.

Multiple custom slots are billed independently, so you can cancel any individual slot without touching Premium or your other customs. That means the risk of adding a second slot is bounded — if it doesn't stick, you can drop it back to one without disrupting anything.
