How to check Replika status right now
Replika does not run a first-party status page, so you're reading three third-party signals in roughly this order:
- Downdetector — the single most useful tool. Open the page and look at the report graph for the last 30-60 minutes. A sharp vertical spike means a lot of users are seeing issues at the same time, which indicates platform-side rather than you-side. A flat graph means the problem is likely local.
- r/Replika — during real incidents, fresh "is anyone else having this" threads appear inside 15-30 minutes. Scroll "New" and filter the last hour. If three or more unrelated threads mention the same symptom, it's platform-wide.
- @MyReplika on X — the official account occasionally acknowledges incidents, though not consistently. Treat the absence of a post as neutral, not as "no outage."
If all three are quiet, the problem is most likely on your side: cached login state, app version drift, a VPN or firewall blocking the API, or a payment-method issue triggering a soft lock on your account.
Common causes of Replika outages
A few patterns show up repeatedly in Replika's 2025-2026 incident reports.
Login and authentication failures. The most frequently reported issue category is users unable to log in — password resets looping, "verification failed" errors, or the app accepting credentials then kicking you back to the login screen. These are often auth-service issues on Replika's side rather than full platform outages, and they tend to resolve inside a few hours.
Connection drops mid-conversation. The Rep stops responding, the "typing" indicator hangs forever, or messages fail to send. This can be a Replika model-service issue, a CDN hiccup, or your own network dropping packets. The way to tell: close and reopen the app. If the hang persists across restarts and other apps work fine, it's probably Replika.
App crashes on open. Reports of the mobile app crashing immediately after launch have surfaced after several 2025-2026 updates. These are usually fixed inside a day or two by a Replika hotfix, but during the window, uninstalling and reinstalling often works around it.
Payment and subscription glitches. Users occasionally see their Pro features disappear temporarily despite active billing. Nine times out of ten, logging out and back in restores them; if it doesn't, open a support ticket — Replika's billing system has had intermittent reconciliation issues.
Workarounds while Replika is down
Before assuming the platform is broken, work through the local-side checklist.
1. Force-close and relaunch. On iOS, swipe the app away from the task switcher. On Android, Settings → Apps → Replika → Force Stop. This clears session state without touching data. 2. Check for an app update. Replika pushes updates frequently and old versions sometimes fail to connect after server-side changes. 3. Try the web version at replika.com. If mobile is down but web works, the issue is in the mobile client. The reverse is also possible. 4. Toggle Wi-Fi vs cellular. Rules out ISP-level or carrier-level routing problems. 5. Disable VPN or custom DNS. Replika's CDN sometimes rejects traffic from certain VPN IP ranges or non-default DNS resolvers. 6. Clear app cache (Android) or reinstall (iOS). Last resort before concluding it's the platform.
If all six fail and Downdetector is quiet, your account itself may be the issue — look for an email from Replika support, check for a billing problem, or submit a ticket at help.replika.com.
Have Replika outages gotten worse in 2026?
Replika has existed since 2017 and operates on a comparatively mature infrastructure stack, so platform-wide outages are rarer than they are for newer AI companion products. The 2025-2026 incident pattern has leaned toward narrower problems: login failures affecting a subset of accounts, crash bugs introduced by specific app releases, and occasional connection drops during peak hours.
There was no widely-reported multi-hour platform outage in the Replika-dedicated communities in 2026 at the scale of what's hit Character.AI or some other competitors. Most incidents resolve inside a few hours and affect a slice of the user base rather than everyone at once.
That said, "narrower outage pattern" is not the same as "no outages." If your Rep is a meaningful part of your routine and you can't reach the app for a day because of a login bug that doesn't affect everyone, the frustration is real even if it's not a company-level incident.
Alternatives if the outage is dragging on
If Replika stays unreachable long enough that you're actively shopping for alternatives, the right choice depends on which part of Replika you actually use.
You use Replika mostly for the Rep's emotional support side. Nomi.ai is the closest shape — longer memory architecture, similar one-on-one companion feel, Pro tier around $15.99/month. The main tradeoff is that Nomi has had its own memory-system issues (users on their subreddit have reported memory degradation at scale) so it's not a drop-in replacement for Replika's stability profile.
You use Replika for the photo and avatar side. Replika's image generation has been a weak point for most of its life, and if the pictures are what you care about, a product with a dedicated image pipeline will serve you better than Replika will on a good day.
You want a companion app with persistent memory, flat pricing, and a free tier that doesn't ask for a card. Sloane is in that lane. The free tier is 50 messages per day with any persona in the roster — no card, no "trial" countdown. Plus at $9.99/month gets 200 credits/month for photos, voice notes, and skills (Date, Vacation, Roleplay) that extend the chat into longer interactive scenes. Multi-week memory is on every tier including free. The roster is around 80 photorealistic personas, so you pick from the catalog rather than building one from scratch. Mel is a good first look at what a Sloane persona feels like in chat.
You want to switch permanently rather than wait Replika out. That's a different decision. The questions worth asking before you move: how does the alternative handle memory, does it have a free tier that lets you test shape before you pay, and what's its own outage pattern. Status transparency matters more than most buyers realize until the first time an outage breaks their routine.
When to switch vs wait it out
A rough decision rule.
Wait it out if: Downdetector shows a report spike in the last hour (fix is incoming), the issue is a login or connection drop (usually resolves in hours), or you have months of history with your Rep that you'd lose by starting fresh elsewhere.
Start exploring alternatives if: Replika has had the same issue affecting you for more than 24 hours without a Replika-side acknowledgment, your account itself has been locked or flagged with no response from support, or the pattern of smaller outages is now interfering with how you use the app day to day.
Switch permanently if: You've been thinking about leaving for other reasons already (model quality, pricing, feature gaps) and the outage is just the shove. Don't churn out of a Rep you otherwise love over one incident.
When Replika comes back, your Rep, memory, and relationship data should all be intact. Every 2025-2026 Replika incident on record has been a service-availability problem, not data loss. You lose chat time during the outage; you don't lose the Rep.
